■ Fukuda Mayuko-san (playing Mitsui Flare)

I received the script during the winter when I was 18 years old, and I thought to myself, this is a film that I can only do right at this moment.

Because Flare is a person who doesn’t show her emotions on the surface, (acting with her) facial expressions and from her point of view was difficult.

If there’s a request for a collaboration work again after this, I want to try it. At the filming location for this film, English, French, and Japanese languages were used so it was really hard. Even when we don’t understand each other, but because we are working together in this 1 work that miraculously, our intentions was able to be understood. It’s an experience that make your heart races, so I definitely want to experience it again.

Though the people that appeared are shameful and not really good people, but because each and everyone of  them are earnestly living their life, so with humors there are parts that you can sympathize with them. I think it’s interesting.

■ Hirose Alice-san (Aigawa Saki)

Even at the filming location, Fukuda-san and I have a relationship like that of “Flare” and “Saki”, so we talked in a harsh tone toward each other. I appeared in director Otsuka’s last film, and I told him that I want to play a girl who’s destructive, and I was given Saki this time. You will be able to see a different and new Hirose Alice that have never seen before for this film.

From the onset, Saki is a girl that’s become closer with Flare, and different from me, she’s someone who’s has a great desire, so that part was difficult to perform.

I definitely want to try collaborating work again. The languages and cultures are different, it’s a different feeling of tension than Japan (film), so my heart was racing. I want to experience it once again.

For this movie, there’s not one person who’s upright and honest. But I hope the audience will be able to see the figure of every characters living for the moment.

Also, please looks forward to the real sounds that was used for the fight scenes.

■ Director Otsuka

Even though Fukuda-san’s role is serious, but there’s a scene that she showed her original smile with just one cut, and that’s a high light. Since Hirose-san was insufficient (not enough of her?) in the previous film, that for this time, she was wild from the rehearsal, putting her all in the quarrel scene. Normally, sounds are added after the movie is done filming, but this time, live sound was used. (laughs)

It has been approximately 1 and a half year since the filming finished. Though there has been various problems while the movie was worked on, in order for the audience to be able to see this, everyone joined forces to make this. Please enjoy watching it to the end.

From Mamayu-Land:

Mayuko started by saying that she’s very happy to see the film she did a year ago was finally able to reach everyone.

When asked what’s the most difficult?

Mayuko said (Hirose Alice’s) Saki is motion, while Flare is stillness. The facial expressions while acting, for example, unable to divert her gaze, or unable to laugh was difficult.

Director Otsuka talked about the scene when Mayuko showed her original smile. He said it was when she was in charge (?) of the pug, and Mayuko giggled.

Fukuda Mayuko (福田麻由子): First Movie Starring Role is a Runaway Girl

Thanks Kantsuki-san for the heads up.

Interview taken from Shukan Bunshun Web.

First Movie Starring Role is a Runaway Girl

Fukuda Mayuko (Actress)

She’s playing the leading part in the Japan France collaboration movie, “FLARE”, about the inner conflicts and growth of a 17 years old girl.

“I wasn’t really aware that it’s a leading role. Since there were many foreign staffs, Japanese, French, and English were thrown around at the filming site, so there were times where I wasn’t able to communicate through words. In such state, I was able to rely on communication that doesn’t required words, so I wondered if the results was satisfactory.”

Fukuda-san played Flare, a runaway girl with a complicated family background. While sitting in front of a convenient store, she was photographed by an unpopular French cameraman, Jean. As Flare began to freely frequent Jean’s office, she gradually become attracted to the Jean that continued to have relationships with the models.

“I can sympathize with Flare, who became irritated at herself and the people around her. Though they are pretty much strange people, everyone live earnestly. And even though that earnestness are humorous and a bit embarrassing, such people are charming, I think it’s that kind of film.”

This spring, she became a second year college student.

“Literature and Philosophy, education and the like, I’m studying subjects that’s associated with “presentation”. They are pretty much things that if you don’t like then you can’t do it (laughs). Though I do have some doubts, I want to make use of the things I learn in a drama.”

- The actual title actually means her first time being the main lead, as in not c0-leading with anybody else.

Fukuda Mayuko (福田麻由子): Even A Former Child Actress… In The Age of Taking Off Her Clothes As a Character Actress

Taken from livedoor NEWS.

Even a Former Child Actress… In The Age of Taking Off Her Clothes As a Character Actress

- There has been an increase of actresses who are willing to do nude scenes

- Former child actress, Fukuda Mayuko, will be shown in semi-nude in the movie that will open on the 26th.

- Perhaps, this will begin a process of elimination of actresses from here on. – Writer

Former Child Actress is Showing her Beautiful Naked Body… Will She Be Able to Survive This Age of True Talent From Here On?

The Japanese film industry is currently in distress.

To say it without fear of criticisms, I’m dissatisfied by the, as a compliment, talentless male idols and young actresses that used their influences. Perhaps a part of it is because of the enthusiastic fans that they became a hit in show business, but it feels like such works that are currently considered mainstream is an impending crisis to the Japanese film world. They are in great demand for dramas and CM, and captured with the viewer’s favorable impressions and the corporate images, but their acting become narrowed. With such significant, the passionate love scenes of Matsumoto Jun of Arashi and Ishihara Satomi that was challenged for FujiTV “Shitsuren Chocolatier” (televising from January to March) was an ambitious drama.

On the other hand, willing to do nude scene by “put in everything for acting”, the trend for such courageous actresses are increasing in numbers and are being welcomed. “Helter Skelter” (2012) with Sawajiri Erika, “The Cowards Who Looked to The Sky” (same year) with Tabata Tomoko, “Sayonara Keikoku” (‘13) with Maki Yoko, “Amai Muchi” (same year) with Dan Mitsu and Mamiya Yuki, “Ai no Uzu” (‘14) with Kadowaki Mugi… Even the national gateway for success for actresses, NHK morning drama heroines Ono Machiko and Natsuna, and soon, Yoshitaka Yuriko, have shown their beautiful nude bodies for movies in the past and because of that their acting ability broaden.

The most recent, putting everything for acting that that gave a deep impression is “FLARE”, the Japan France collaboration movie that will be open to the public on the 26th (director Otsuka Yukichi), in which Fukuda Mayuko will be semi-nude. I first know her as the younger version of Fukada Kyoko for “Kamikaze Girls” (‘04). Debuted as an actress when she was 7 years old, and after appearing in movies such as “L Change the World” (‘08), “Heaven’s Door” (‘09), and others, she became a 19 years old college student. Though I talked to her 5 years ago while collecting information for the animation movie “Mai Mai Miracles” when she was still a 3rd year junior high student, to be able to witness the moment that she transforms to a adult actress is deeply moving.

Fukuda played as the 17 years old, runaway girl, Flare. After meeting with the 40 years old, French, cameraman Jean (Valentin Bonhomme) in Tokyo, they began to live together. Flare stood in front of Jean’s camera as a model, and smoothly take off her clothes. Though part of her chest is hidden by her long, black hair, I honestly thought “beautiful” when I saw it. “Since she was a child, she has acted as characters with impact, an unique actress. She has a dark aura somewhere, it’s precisely the image of Flare” executive producer, Futoshiro Masahiro (60), talked about the reason Fukuda was appointed the role.

In spite of Flare dating for compensation in order to save Jean from debt, he still continues to have relationships with the models.  By exposing her naked body, Flare showed a bit of her rebellious heart to Jean who doesn’t see her as a woman, and a manifestation of her awaken of love. Being forced to be a model for child pornography in the past by her mother, by taking off her clothes in front of a guy she likes, perhaps she is also parting from her past. “Since it’s a vital scene, Fukuda really also understood it well.” Futoshiro said.

Just showing nude body or doing erotic scene doesn’t make you part of the “acting clique”. However, with resolution while risking your life to act, you’ll be able to shake the viewer’s heart. Playing Flare’s friend is 19 years old Hirose Alice, the heroine for the currently showing movie “Silver Spoon”, will have a bold kiss scene with Fukuda, she’s another actress that we’ll look forward to. Playing the charming friend with emotion instability and uncontrollable, she has the same promise as the current talented actresses spearheaded by Mitsushima Hikari and Nikaido Fumi. “Perhaps there will start an actress weeding out process hereafter. Perhaps I can look forward to the Japanese film from now on.” - “Flare” is a work that make people believe in this. (WEB compilation team Ito Norihiro)

Crank In!: Fukuda Mayuko (福田麻由子) Putting Everything She Has Into Her First Starring Role in “FLARE”, a Japan France Collaboration Movie, Trailer

Taken from Crank In!!

Fukuda Mayuko, who’s known for the drama “Jyoou no Kyoshitsu”, the movie “Heaven’s Door” and other, will perform her first starring role in the Japan – France collaboration movie “FLARE”, which will begin showing in Tokyo theaters in April. The trailer for the movie is also out to the public.

[Related] Fukuda Mayuko is challenging “adult’s new state of mind” for “FLARE” pictures & poster

This film depicted a youthful drama about a change when a 17 years old, runaway girl and a debauched, Frenchman photographer meet. With a goal to advance even further, Fukuda challenged this ambitious film by putting her all into acting as the runaway girl – Flare.

The photographer that changed Flare’s fate – Jean, is played by a new actor that’s anticipated in the French film, Valentin Bonhomme. In addition, it also starred Hirose Alice from “Silver Spoon”, Tanimura Mitsuki, Katou Masaya and others. The director is Otsuka Yukiji of “Soup ~ Umarekawari no Monogatari ~”.

After failing his second marriage, unknown French cameraman Jean transferred his work to Tokyo while buried his days in debts and alcohol. One day, stopping by a convenient store to buy alcohol, Jean meets the runaway girl – Flare.

With an interest in using Flare as a subject, Jean took a picture of her in that spot. Deeply moved by that picture, Flare settled in Jean’s studio. Abused by her parents since she was young, and having no place to go, Flare begins working as an assistant, free of charge, for Jean, and she gradually grows to admire his works.

One day, after Jean beating up a debtor, Flare begins compensation dating to hide him. But Jean continues to have relationships with the girls that come to his studio, and Flare is against it. With her whole heart of wanting to see her as the only woman, her inside and outside suddenly changed…

“FLARE” will be shown nation wide in sequential order, starting from April 26th in Cinemart of Roppongi.
